Ambulance Station.

Our commission for a new ambulance station for the City of Chelmsford formed the final piece of our comprehensive redevelopment of the Coval Lane site, illustrated elsewhere. The operational requirements of an ambulance station can easily overwhelm the wider design considerations. Within these constraints we have produced a simple form of two single-storey arms stretching into landscape. This low-profile approach respects the views from beyond the site and contains the vehicle activity. The building is clad in a silver grey metal. Where the building approaches the entrance from the major road access the cladding changes to Cor ten (steel which naturally forms a protective finish) to signpost the building and its function.
