Interior Architects in Essex.

Our interiors work sits alongside the architectural side of the Practice, rather than as a separate offer. Materials, light, joinery and services are considered from the earliest sketches — and as a result, the finished interior tends to feel of a piece with the building rather than added to it.

01

Sectors we design for.

The interiors team works across hospitality, workplace, education and residential. In hospitality we design guest rooms, bars, restaurants and back-of-house. In workplace we look at reconfiguration, wayfinding, meeting suites and staff facilities. In education we have delivered lecture theatres and libraries. In residential we take on kitchen, bathroom and whole-house schemes, often as part of a wider architectural project.

02

What good interior architecture looks like.

A well-considered interior is coherent. Materials speak to each other, joinery is properly resolved, lighting is designed rather than specified from a catalogue, and there is a consistent grammar across the space. We would rather commit to a few carefully chosen moves and see them through with real craft than spread the design thinly across the room.

03

Selected interiors work.

LTS Lecture Theatre and the UOW Library were substantial education interiors projects. The University of London Research Centre reconfigured a working academic building. In hospitality, Northumberland Avenue combined interiors work with heritage architecture on a listed building, and The Lion Inn has seen successive interior phases as the business has evolved.

04

How an interiors project runs.

Interiors projects follow the same RIBA stages as our architectural work. We start with the brief and a survey of the existing space, then develop a concept covering layout, materials, lighting and joinery. Detailed design resolves the specification and the drawings a fit-out contractor needs to price accurately, and we stay involved through installation to check the detailing is delivered as drawn.

Where the interior forms part of a wider building project, the two run as one programme. Services, structure and finishes are then resolved together, which avoids the compromises that appear when interiors are appointed late.

05

Specification and craft.

The quality of an interior is usually decided in the specification rather than the concept. We take care over how materials meet, how joinery is set out, how lighting is layered and how services are integrated so that the finished space reads as considered rather than assembled.

The interiors team sits within a RIBA Chartered architectural practice, which means schemes are developed with a working knowledge of structure, Building Regulations, fire strategy and accessibility. Interior ideas are tested against what the building will actually allow before they are presented, not afterwards.

FAQ

Common questions.

Do you take on interiors without architecture?+

Yes. We are happy to take on interior-only briefs, whether a single reconfiguration or a full fit-out.

Do you specify furniture and fittings?+

Yes. FF&E specification, joinery packages and lighting design are all part of the service where the brief calls for it.

Can you work with our brand guidelines?+

We work with operator and corporate brand standards regularly. Considered brand guidance sharpens design decisions rather than constraining them.
