This complex, two stage project involved the redevelopment of a city centre brownfield site whilst in phase 1 retaining an operational ambulance station. This rectangular site had complex constraints with neighbouring residential and commercial properties. The design had to respect these constraints whilst providing a temporary interface with the operational ambulance facility and a logical progression with the phase 2 works. The scheme takes the form of a tight linear mews terminated by apartment buildings. The design uses a mixture of traditional pitched roof forms in the linear terraces with flat roof rendered buildings as termination points. Prominent glazed lanterns over circulation stairs form a repeating theme through the development.

The design adopts a limited palette of materials contributing to a strong sense of place.
